The Geography of the United States: Regions, Landforms, and Timezones

This is my final OLE project. I wanted to teach a lesson to fifth graders about the four US regions, the major landform, and the time zone that they are in. I used the Ohio Standards for Geography to determine what fifth graders in Ohio should be learning. Here is the link to my presentation:
I narrated the PowerPoint just as I would have spoken to the class in the WebEx classroom. That said, I just went through the PowerPoint and paused where the students would do the activity or go into their groups. This is the first of what would be a three part lesson, but to do all parts would be too big a project to complete for this semester.
I used new technology to create the assessment my students will use. Being an online classroom, the kids can get bored sticking to just the WebEx framework, so I used SurveyMonkey to create their quiz. The questions are tailored to the fifth graders in the class and even though they were assigned different regions to complete, the survey will be one they, if they followed along and did the assignment, will be able to complete. In my research, I used the Ohio New Learning Standards for reference on what the fifth graders should be learning about geography at this point in their education. Ohio department of Education gave a great document that outlines this information. You can find that resource here.
